Dermatology

Dermatology is the study of skin diseases. The UD cooperates with the dog and cat specialists at the Department of Clinical Sciences to treat different forms of skin problems and allergies. The vets at this specialist clinic have the expertise to handle even complex skin diseases and investigate and treat allergic diseases.

The skin is the body's largest organ and it has many important functions. One example is that the skin has important immunological functions. Disturbances in skin function can affect the usability, quality of life and not least the economic value of a horse. Symptoms may be caused by parasites, infections, genetic defects, tumours and other types of disease.

If your horse has skin  problems, an accurate diagnosis is essential for proper treatment and a good prognosis. Early, appropriate treatment reduces the risk of chronic changes or an infection with resistant bacteria.

At the dermatology clinic, we also conduct research to expand our knowledge about various diseases and their treatment. This means that there may be opportunities for your horse to participate in projects on diagnosis and new treatments of skin and allergic diseases.
